The gender barrier on system engineering

In Colombia, women represent only about 25% of engineering graduates, and in Bogotá just 14% of students in engineering are female. Despite this, women engineers have higher employment rates and salaries than women in other careers. The gap is mainly caused by gender stereotypes and cultural biases that discourage girls from pursuing technical fields. The article shows that gender inequality in engineering is not about ability but social barriers. Encouraging more women into STEM could reduce inequality and boost innovation, but it requires changing education and cultural perceptions from an early age.
